What is New Media? Vin Crosbie

1-What are the three transportation media? What is the difference between a transport medium and a transport vehicle?

Land, water and air. The medium is always there and besides air man does not need technology to use them, but technology increases or efficiency of the medium, where the vehicle is within the medium and cannot travel within another medium with the exception of air vehicles

2-What are the three communication media? Give examples of communication media vs communication vehicles. Email uses which communication medium?

Interpersonal, Mass Medium, and New Medium are the communication media where the vehicles are email, newspaper, tv, radio, ect… Email is a vehicle for interpersonal.

3-What are the advantages/disadvantages of interpersonal communication? of broadcast communication?

Advantages of interpersonal Each participant in it has equal and reciprocal control of the content conveyed.

That content can be individualized to each participants unique needs and interests.

Disadvantages of interpersonal

The equal control, and also the individualization, of the content degrades into cacophony as the number of participants increases. The more people participating in a conversation, the less control each has over its content and how well that content matches the participant's individual needs and interests.

Advantages of broadcast

That exactly the same content goes to all recipients.

That the one who sends it has absolute control over that content.

Disadvantages of broadcast Its content cannot be individualized to each recipient's unique needs and interests and that the recipients have no control over that content.

4-What are the characteristics of the New Medium? Is a many-to-many communication possible without the new technology of laptop, iphone and internet?

Uniquely individualized information can simultaneously be delivered or displayed to a potentially infinite number of people.

Each of the people involved — whether publisher, broadcasters, or consumer — shares equal and reciprocal control over that content.

In other words, the New Medium has the advantages of both the Interpersonal and the Mass media, but without their complementary disadvantages.

No longer must anyone who wants to individually communicate a unique message to each recipient be restricted to communicating with only one person at a time.

No longer must anyone who wants to communicate simultaneous messages to a mass of recipients be unable to individualize the content of the message for each recipient.

Yes many to many is possible but it is really hard because you would have to get everyone into the same room and give everyone the equal amount of speaking power.
